APAO 2021 Virtual Congress Opening Ceremony
& 2021 APAO Named Award Lectures

We are excited to share
with you that the Opening Ceremony of the 36th APAO
Congress is scheduled at 12:00 – 12:30 (GMT+8, Hong
Kong) on Sunday, 5 September. As the Congress format
changes and goes all virtual this year, the award
presentation will be conducted in a special way, after
the Opening Ceremony, to give you and the Awardees a
first-ever and most memorable experience.
In addition to speeches
from Guests of Honor and unique performances, we honor
awardees for their exemplary leadership and significant
contributions in advancing ophthalmology at the
prestigious Named Award Lectures. The Awardees and their
respective Awards are as follows:

Moderated by Prof.
Dennis LAM and Prof. Paisan RUAMVIBOONSUK, the Special
Commemorative Exhibition & Symposium – ‘Then & Now’
showcases the history and significant milestones of APAO
and recognizes the visionary leaders who have
contributed to ophthalmology and the Academy; along
with 6 top-notch ophthalmologists including A/Prof. Prin
ROJANAPONGPUN, Dr. Raoul PAOLO, Dr. Santosh HONAVAR, Dr.
Won Ki LEE, Prof. Satoshi KASHII, and Dr. Chi-Chun LAI
to present the achievements in their subspecialty areas
over our first 6 decades. |

APAO60 Best Abstract Awards
and Submitted Session
Coming to its 3rd year,
the Annual Abstract Awards will be named under APAO60 to
award ophthalmologists with outstanding contributions to
the submitted program of the APAO 2021 Virtual Congress,
including the Top 4 Best Scientific Paper Awards and the
Top 3 Best E-Posters and Best Videos.
The APAO Central
Secretariat received 1018 submissions this year. Hosting
a Virtual Congress for the first time, we present to you
the awardees and their respective Awards as follows:
Two awarded Free Papers
will be presented at 18:15 – 19:15 (GMT+8, Hong Kong) on
Wednesday, 8 September under the theme – “Rapid Fire
Translational and Visual Sciences Research & Intraocular
Inflammation, Uveitis and Scleritis Update Session”.

The
WGA Advocacy Committee is undertaking an
exciting new initiative – A Database of Glaucoma
Awareness And Education Online Material,
highlighting the impact of glaucoma on
individuals’ lives, what care processes have
been like for patients, and trainings that tell
what drives glaucoma specialists/why glaucoma
awareness is important. Your great assistance in
collating the database of videos/interviews
would be highly appreciated.
