Each year, outstanding ophthalmologists are recognized for their contributions to advancing ophthalmology and eye care services in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. We are proud to recognize the following individuals with the Named Awards to be presented at the APAO 2023 Congress!  

The award presentation will be held during the APAO Congress Opening Ceremony on Feb 23, 2023, at 11:40-13:00. In addition, we will also present the APAO 2022 Named Awards (from last year) at APAO 2023 Congress again in person, after the virtual presentation ceremony at the WOC2022 Virtual Congress.

The respective award lectures from the 2023 named awardees will be presented during the Plenary Sessions on Feb 23 (10:40-11:40; GMT+8) and Feb 24 (16:30-17:30; GMT +8).

Imaging the Eye: Helping the World to See

Share your best image(s) under 10 different categories and help APOIS to promote eye care through engaging imagery.

The winners will:

1. Receive complimentary registration for APAO 2023 Congress.

2. Receive cash vouchers and a certificate at Cultural Party of APAO 2023 Congress.

3. Winning image(s) will be exhibited at APAO 2023 Congress.

4. Have their image(s) displayed in the “Virtual Exhibition” on the APOIS website and during the APOIS 2023 Annual Meeting in Hong Kong, and at other education and promotional events organized or attended by APOIS.

1^st Runner-up: US$50 per category 

Guidelines

1. Submissions can be made from APOIS members, non-members as well as the general public.

2. The winners must hold sole copyright to the image and provide APAO the full rights to use the image for marketing and communications purposes.

Performance by: Kumpulan Briged Seni Melaka

Briged Seni Melaka is an official cultural dance and music-performing group for the State Government of Melaka. Established in 1989, its mission is to promote Melaka Cultural art and dance as one of the tourism products, and introduce it throughout the country.

Performance by Briged Seni Melaka includes various dance types that are choreographed to depict the unique Malaysian multi – racial community, particularly in Melaka, where there are mixtures of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba – Nyonya, Chitty and Portuguese.

Briged Seni Melaka has won many prestigious awards such as the National Champion of Traditional Music (Johan Muzik Asli Kebangsaan), National Champion of Live Band Group (Johan Pertandingan KUGIRAN Peringkat Kebangsaan), Champion of Malay Dance Festival Palembang Indonesia and National dance Festival 2007 by Ministry of Culture and Arts.

4. Berjaya Times Square, a very unique shopping mall that has its own theme park inside the premise, including a roller coaster!

For those looking for a bargain, you can head to Petaling Street, a bustling shopping locale with haggling vendors offering a variety of goods, from apparels to food. Lastly, just up the road from Petaling Street you can find Central Market (Pasar Seni), a popular tourist destination where you can find souvenirs and locally made handicrafts at a reasonable price.
