Introducing APAO 2024 Named Awardees

The annual APAO Congress recognizes outstanding ophthalmologists for their contributions to advancing ophthalmology and eye care services in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. In the upcoming 2024 event, we are delighted to present Named Awards to the following distinguished achievers!

The award presentation will be held during the APAO Congress Opening Ceremony on Feb 22, 2024, from 16:30 to 17:30. Four respective awardee lectures will be presented during the Plenary Sessions.

At the APAO 2024 Congress, our esteemed co-sponsor Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI) will organize four symposiums featuring 26 distinguished AOI members as invited speakers. The topics are as follows:

Areas Where Basic Science Has Given New Insight Into Pathobiology of Ocular Diseases

Date: Feb 23 (Fri)
Time: 11:00 – 12:30
This symposium will explain how insight into the pathobiology of diseases will help to improve patient care in diseases such as diabetes, ROP, myopia, and glaucoma. Professor Hugh Taylor will give the special AOI Lecture: Global Blindness: Are We Making Progress?

New Principles in Education

Date: Feb 23 (Fri)
Time: 16:30 - 18:00
With the proliferation of new technologies in education, experts from around the world will discuss the latest approaches to teaching cataract surgery and testing a person's knowledge. The use of AI in everyday practice will be discussed.

Improving Care of the Anterior Segment

Date: Feb 24 (Sat)
Time: 14:30 - 16:00
This symposium will discuss updates in ocular surface and corneal diseases, offering insights into treating the most difficult cases.

Genetics in Ophthalmology

Date: Feb 24 (Sat)
Time: 16:30 - 18:00
Why is the testing of genetics and genomics so important? When a specific genetic disease has been identified, you can help patients with advice about their future. Using data from proteomics or genomics may help identify targetable disease processes. Many of these approaches, which are set to become standard in the future, will now be explained by experts in the field.

The 3.5-day APAO 2024 Congress will cover 19 major subspecialties in ophthalmology and visual sciences. It will feature invited lectures, challenging cases with panel discussions, instruction courses, free paper sessions, posters, electronic posters, and videos. The program will be in parallel with a total of 18 concurrent sessions running up to four 90-minute time slots every day. Together, all these dialogues under the scientific program will foster exchanges of ideas and innovations.

The online speaker-ready room opens from January 15 to February 5, 2024. Presenters are encouraged to upload their PPT files onto the system before the congress to avoid a long waiting time in the on-site speaker-ready room.
