APAO 2025 Scientific Program Committee Chair

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my privilege to extend a warm welcome to all of you to the 40^th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in the capacity of APAO 2025 Scientific Program Committee (SPC) Chair.

The Asia-Pacific is home to more than 4 billion people, and there are significant challenges in eye care. We face a rising threat of age-related eye diseases among an aging population, a diverse demographic landscape with a broad spectrum of ocular conditions, and an imbalanced distribution of resources that hinders the prevention and eradication of blindness in some parts of the region. By coming together and pooling our collective expertise, we strive to devise innovative solutions to ensure quality eye care for all.

With this vision, the APAO and SPC are committed to designing a comprehensive scientific program for ophthalmologists and visual scientists from the region and beyond to exchange the latest knowledge and discuss collaborative efforts. The 2025 congress is anticipated to bring together over 1,000 top-notch speakers from India and around the world. Their pioneering research, groundbreaking discoveries, and cutting-edge techniques will undoubtedly shape the future of ophthalmology. We are also expecting an attendance of around 10,000 delegates, who will contribute their ideas and experience through our interactive symposiums, workshops, and other scientific sessions.

Hurry up and don’t miss the chance to apply for the APAO Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants and/or the APAO Young Ophthalmologists (YO) Travel Grants by September 15, 2024!

Successful applicants will receive travel funding (US$300 for recipients residing in the host country/ US$1,000 for those living elsewhere) and complimentary registration to attend the APAO 2025 Congress, and invitations to the Congress Cultural Party. Since the release of our Sponsorship and Exhibition Prospectus last month, we’ve been thrilled by an overwhelming response.

If your company/organization intends to participate in the APAO 2025 Congress exhibition but has not yet secured a spot, please look up our Exhibition Floor Plan as soon as possible to check booth availability.

International sponsors and exhibitors can make reservations via the online booking form. You will receive extra priority points for bookings before November 30.

Do I need a visa to attend the APAO 2025 Congress in New Delhi?

A: Travelers from most countries are required to obtain visas to visit India. To check the entry requirement on your nationality, you may refer to the table here:

I’m not from India or a visa-exempt country.
What type of visa should I get?

A: To attend the Congress, you should apply for a Conference Visa. Please note that this is a distinctive category of visas, different from tourist or business visas.

The Congress in April 2025 seems quite far from now. Why is APAO asking me to submit my visa application information so early?

A: Because the process of applying for Indian visas is complex, please understand that it takes time for the local host to prepare your supporting documents, including a conference invitation letter and two official permission letters.

When can I expect to receive these letters?

A: Upon registration for the Congress, you will be invited to complete a Visa Supporting Documents Request Form by October 31, 2024. After that, you will receive the necessary documents from the local host between November and December 2024 via email.
