Introducing Our Academic Partner

  Issue 5 - September 2024

For the first time, the annual APAO Congress will feature an academic partner. This collaboration, to debut at our 2025 meeting in New Delhi, aims to provide a collegial atmosphere for the exchange of professional and scientific knowledge, furthering the profession of ophthalmology and ultimately improving research, education, and patient care.

We are pleased to announce that our first-ever academic partner is the South Asian Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO).

The idea of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was conceived in 1970, and a formal charter was signed at the governmental level by the seven founding countries on December 8, 1985, in Nepal. The eighth country, Afghanistan, joined in April 2007.

SAO is a unique concept of regional cooperation with a very distinct diversity of geography, culture, and environment. The region features the highest mountains in the world and has land-locked mountain terrains. One of the member countries, Maldives, is the smallest island nation in the world. SAO got its affiliation with SAARC because of its impressive academic and patient care in this region.

Health professionals from these countries join hands to develop common goals, objectives, and opportunities, where health interventions will not only achieve freedom from illness but also ensure a bright future by bringing peace, progress, and prosperity to the entire region.

Currently, the SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology is referred to as the South Asian Academy of Ophthalmology (registered name), or SAO. Its President is Prof. Dr . Rajvardhan Azad and its Secretary-General is Dr. Lalit Verma.

The APAO 2025 Congress is approaching! Registered delegates can now book accommodation at selected hotels near the congress venue at special rates through our official platform. Visit our hotel reservation web page for policies and transport arrangements.
