The Nepal Ophthalmic Society was established in 1985. It has come a long way since its establishment, from less than 15 members 25 years ago to more than 140 members today. It provides a common platform for both national and international ophthalmologists involved in eye care programs in Nepal. There has been a tremendous development in eye care services in Nepal over the past 25 years. There are well-established eye hospitals providing comprehensive eye care in all 14 zones, where people from neighboring countries also seek quality eye care services. Additionally, primary eye care centers provide services in remote villages throughout the country. General membership to the Nepal Ophthalmic Society is available to qualified Nepali ophthalmologists. Non-Nepali ophthalmologists can also be registered as associate members, and international ophthalmologists who have significantly contributed to the field of ophthalmology nationally and internationally are awarded honorary membership.
